Vintage Tea Party

What a party! In the dark days of winter we had perhaps rashly agreed to host Sarah and Phil's 40th birthday party. Family friends and guest of long standing, Sarah has particularly fond memories of our home and garden so it was a pleasure to organise the event for them, and a perfect excuse to break out the bunting and whitewash the barn. The day was perfect; a cloudless blue sky and light breeze welcomed the guests to Silver Cottage and Phil was there to offer fizz on arrival. Soon the garden was filled with their friends and family with children running gleefully up and down between the gardens. The barn doors were opened to reveal white linen covered trestle tables, vintage china, cake stands, cake forks and napkins, and of course an array of home made tea time delicacies including proper sandwiches with the crusts cut off, home made cake, scones with clotted cream and jam and home made meringues. After tea people sat in the garden chatting in the afternoon sun and then as the sun descended we lit the candles in the barn and South Sixteen whipped up the lane with a treat Sarah had cleverly organised - piping hot Fish and Chips for the forty guests who sat in the barn to eat.Sarah and Phil were a delight to assist and we hope to be able host more super events like this.
